The vibrant and unspoilt market town of Abergavenny also acts as the Gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park with The Black Mountains being the closest mountain range. This allows our visitors to Abergavenny to experience our stunning scenery whilst walking, cycling and bird watching or for the more adventurous why not try paragliding or mountain biking? Family holidaymakers might like to take advantage of our close proximity to the World Heritage Site at Blaenavon with Big Pit being one of the many free local attractions.

Our famous Abergavenny Food Festival recognises all that we have to offer when it said of our renowned September weekend……… ‘Feast your eyes and feed your face at the Abergavenny Food Festival, an orgy of gluttony that lasts two Dionysian days. There will be master classes, tastings, demonstrations and more than 100 stalls selling organic and locally sourced fare.’ The exceptional quality of the many prestigious restaurants and other eating experiences go to underline the importance of giving you a memorable visit.
Back in the town centre, visit the Norman castle and the restored 19th century keep. The treasures at St Mary’s Priory, the many Marches castles and medieval churches surround the area, all of which are within striking distance. Experiencing our famous market days in our newly restored Victorian Market Hall adds yet another dimension to your holiday; markets changing daily include farmers, flea, collectors, craft and the original produce market.
The festival season is further enriched in high summer with an enormous variety of events. The Abergavenny Carnival, shows, concerts - all with many child friendly activities. The Borough and Melville Theatres play a huge part in this. There are numerous 'al fresco' events, such as the Steam Rally & Shire Horse Show which illustrates our strong links both to agriculture and the surrounding industrial heritage.
